✈️ From Landscapes to Live Streams – The First Year of Start Aviation

A year ago, if someone had told Steve and me that we would be spending our Saturday mornings live streaming aircraft from Manchester Airport to aviation enthusiasts around the world, we probably would have laughed.

Back then, our cameras were pointed at mountains, coastlines, woodland and sunrises. 📷🌅

Landscape photography had been a passion of ours for many years. We loved early starts, chasing good light, and capturing those special moments that nature occasionally provides. What we didn't realise at the time was that many of those skills would eventually lead us towards aviation photography and, ultimately, YouTube.

✈️ Start Aviation was born just over a year ago.

Like many new creators, we started with enthusiasm, plenty of ideas, and absolutely no idea how much there was to learn!

Our first videos were simple. We filmed aircraft movements at Manchester Airport, uploaded them, and hoped a few fellow enthusiasts might enjoy them. We never imagined the incredible support and encouragement we would receive from the aviation community.

As the months passed, the channel began to grow.

We upgraded equipment, learned new filming techniques, experimented with editing styles, and slowly developed the calm, close-up aviation content that has become our signature style today. Every upload taught us something new.

Of course, it wasn't always smooth flying. 😅

We've experienced technical issues, streaming problems, software headaches, weather challenges, and more than a few frustrating mornings when things simply refused to work as planned. Like every creator, we've had moments where we questioned ourselves and wondered whether it was worth the effort.

Thankfully, we kept going.

Every challenge taught us something valuable, and every setback helped us improve.

Today, we can honestly say that Start Aviation is in a fantastic place. 🚀

Our Saturday morning live streams have become a regular meeting point for aviation enthusiasts, our Sunday Mix videos continue to showcase some of the best aircraft action from Manchester Airport, and we've built a genuinely friendly and supportive community around the channel.

Most importantly, we've met some wonderful people along the way.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been seeing familiar names return stream after stream, video after video. What started as a small YouTube experiment has become a community of aviation enthusiasts who share the same passion for aircraft, airports, photography and the magic of flight.
